KB Research and Practice: Implementation in Education

You will need to learn new tools, you may need to apply your skills slightly differently. You must be technologically savvy and open-minded. But the fundamental skill stays.
— Singapore's Education Minister, Ong Ye Kung, August 2019

What does it take to refashion teaching for the future?

Knowledge Building / Knowledge Creation approach

To transform education in a fundamental way

Such that it becomes a coherent effort to initiate students & teachers

Into a knowledge creating culture

Conceptualisation of Learning Analytics for KB

Curriculum-ideas-Analytics (CiA)

CiA is designed to support teachers and students in understanding the idea-development trajectory in lessons. It it bench-marked against an interdisciplinary curriculum map, which spans across grades and subjects to derive big ideas within a topic of inquiry.

Multimodal Learning Analytics: Research and Practice

The Student KB Design Studio 2019 was a collaboratory designed to bring a community of students and scientists together to tackle an existent and authentic problem of sustainable living. This experimental and empirical research environment allowed scientists and students to work and communicate together to participate in collaborative science, through the design, experimentation, evaluation, and improvement of systems.

Multimodal data was captured to explore the relationships between curiosity, motivation, and interest to the dynamic measures of deep learning. Click here to find out more.

Design of Curriculum-idea-Analytics (CiA)

Curriculum-ideas Analytics (CiA) is an analytics tool designed to support teachers and students in understanding the “big ideas” in their discussion in light of  an extended curriculum that is mapped across grades (from Primary to Junior colleges) and subjects (e.g. science, and geography). We illustrate the design for the theme of electricity, but other focal themes developed in CiA included heat (Science and Geography), cells and war (History). In the CiA for electricity, the researchers mapped the specific instructional objectives (SIOs) from topics in our national curriculum documents for different grade levels to a few focal theme, e.g. Electric system. The purpose of the mapping is to capture the growth of curriculum knowledge related to focal theme from inter-topics and/or inter-disciplinary (where possible) across grade levels from year 1 to 12.
